Housewarming Help

So after much debate I’ve decided to have a housewarming in about 2 weeks. I’ve sent everyone an evite (looove evites!) and now it’s planning time. I really really really don’t like hosting parties. It’s just a bit awkward for me. But most of my friends haven’t seen my new place, and the new place is great and I like to eat and love good conversation, so figured I’d suck it up and throw a housewarming party.

But, but, but, my first issue is that I have so many different sets of friends, and none of them know each other, so how can I lessen the awkward-ness of a whole bunch of people who don’t know each other?! My first thought is games! I heart board games, they were big in our family growing up and it’s something I enjoy (though for some reason I don’t have any). And I don’t have a fancy Wii or Xbox or Playstation, so I figured board games would be good. I’ve always loved Cranium even though some of the trivia is a little tough. But you can act things out or mold them in clay. When I’ve played with my family it’s always been such a fun time. And I was also thinking Pictionary or MadGab. Am I being too corny?

And the other thing is what food I should serve. I’ve been putting off thinking about it, but it is only 2 weeks away, so I have to think about it. There will be a mix of kids and adults, so have to include stuff kids will like and adults will enjoy. It’s an afternoon get together so nothing very heavy. Maybe meatballs? Veggie Kebabs? Bruschetta? And of course I’ll have salad and a fruit/cheese/cracker combo. Ooh and I heart French Onion dip. I don’t want to go to crazy or expensive, but want to have good food.

Can’t forget about the space issue either! My place is not that big and more people are coming than I thought, so how can I make the most out of the space I have?

I haven’t even thought of decorations either. Do I need them? I do know that the day of I’m going to get some fresh flowers and little vases to put them in, think that will be the perfect touch.
