Foodler Review

We all love a home cooked meal. My idea of a perfect meal would consist of cheesy baked macaroni and cheese with a breadcrumb topping, sautéed kale with garlic, warm buttery rolls, and barbecued chicken that has been marinating overnight. Yumm, right? As a busy working mom I am forever on the go, and even though I try I don’t always win with meal planning and therefore a lot of meals are last minute. I do try to cook a home cooked meal each night for myself and my daughter, but listen it doesn’t always work like that! Between late nights at work and her various activities and birthday parties, sometimes takeout is the answer.

And that’s what I love Foodler! They make online ordering of take-out and delivery food from local restaurants quick and easy! Foodler is a fast-growing network of online restaurants in many cities that offers a wide selection of menus and cuisines.

Foodler Gives You:
·       Easy, intuitive, and free online ordering from restaurant menus.
·       Complete listings of restaurants that offer delivery and take-out in your area.
·       Accurate prices, restaurant savings, and online coupons.
·       A variety of menus including Chinese, Italian, Pizza, Mexican, Japanese, and Thai.
·       Exclusive restaurant and dish ratings

Foodler Rewards You:
·      Earn FoodlerPoints for every dollar you spend and every restaurant and dish you review.
·      FoodlerPoints can be redeemed for gift cards, FoodlerBucks and even cash.
·      Exclusive discounts
·      Rebates in the form of FoodlerBucks for trying new participating restaurants
·      Contest every Friday on our Facebook that rewards FoodlerBucks

My ordering experience with Foodler was great! I ordered from one of my favorite local restaurants providing fresh local ingredients: Stone Hearth Pizza. I was craving some of their delicious parmesan flatbread and chopped salad. Everything was very clear on the website and 45 minutes later I was inhaling my online order! The website could use some sprucing up, but other than that everything I ordered was exactly how it was delivered to my door! Bye bye to a messy menu drawer, and hello to a whole new way to order take-out and delivery!

The Lorax is awesome & a Stonyfield Giveaway!

The folks over at Stonyfield sent my daughter and I to see the wonderful movie The Lorax in 3D this weekend. I’m sure by now we’ve all seen a commercial or ad for this wonderful movie, and I’m glad to say that it sure did live up to all the hype!

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.
-          Dr. Suess

From the graphics to the message, the movie was one of the best kid’s movies I’ve seen in a long time. It wasn’t just about social responsibility it was about greed, manipulation, confidence, and the environment. It made me think a lot about my role in society and how I may be helping or hurting the environment. It’s great because my daughter left wanting to plant seeds and spend time with the trees!

So where does Stonyfield fit into the picture? Well speaking of caring for our environment, Stonyfield, the world’s leading organic yogurt maker, recently announced their collaborating with the recent 3D movie and recently launched YoKids Greek Yogurt.

With 6 grams of protein and an excellent source of calcium made with low-fat organic milk, YoKids Greek is perfect for meal or snack time. And, as the only organic Greek yogurt available for kids, YoKids Greek provides families a quality product produced without the use of toxic persistent pesticides, antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically engineered ingredients, or artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners. My daughter is HOOKED!!

If you and your family would like to try YoKids, enter the giveaway below:

(2) 1 FREE 4-pack of Stonyfield YoKids Greek organic yogurt

Mamavation Monday

Last Week’s Goals:
-Walk 10 miles [there is about a foot and a half of snow so hoping to get as much walking as I can]
-Pack lunch the 3 days I’m in the office
-Eat healthy snacks
-Do a workout DVD one time this week
-Limit alcohol intake on New Years

This week walking totals:

Monday: 1 mile
Tuesday: 2.8 miles
Wednesday: 2.8 miles
Thursday: 2.7 miles
Friday: 2.5 miles
Saturday: 3 miles
Sunday: 1.9 miles

TOTAL: 16.7 miles

Woo-Hoo, I surpassed my walking total by 6.7 miles which is great! Luckily we didn’t have any more snow, pair that with warmer temperatures and walking wasn’t too difficult this week. This weekend my daughter and I walked a total of 4.9 miles together! That is a lot for her little legs!! This is her today on our walk:
And today I did Day 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. If you are unfamiliar with Jillian Michaels, she does not play around. She can be very intimidating. She means business. There are 3 levels and workouts are only 20 minutes, which is great for my schedule. But, you do not stop moving the entire 20 minutes. I literally laid on the floor for 10 minutes after I completed today’s workout. I was beat. I used 5lb weights for the arm workouts and figured that would be too heavy, but it proved to be quite hard and I know my arms are going to burn tomorrow. But no pain, no gain. I am doing the Shred with Tara over at The Young Mommy Life so we are going to keep each other motivated and accountable. I am hoping Ro over at RandomRoRo will join in as well! Let me know if you want to join in The Shred-Get it right, get it tight team! Lol
My daughter wanted to work out as well and she was sooo ready for 20 minutes with Jillian:
I did a good job at bringing lunch last week and am going to do better this week!! I made a big pot of yummy Lentil soup for lunch and look at all the yummy snacks I have for the week:
I've got: almonds, cucumbers, apples, celery, carrots, tangerines, almond butter, wheat thins, and a couple of mixes from Target

To help me with water intake I’m going to be using some Crystal Light packets [thanks ThrBabyMamaChronicles], but not the entire packet in my water bottle. Using the entire packet makes the water way too sweet for my taste.

I did great with my alcohol intake on New Years, because what I got to drink at home [Skinny Girl Margarita] was absolutely disgusting!!

So all in all I think I did pretty damn good with my goals for this week!

-Ordered a great Eat Smart Precision Scale from Amazon, so now I can get accurate readings of my weight! My scale now is old and never accurate.
-Finally went out an bought a foam roller to relieve the tension in my muscles, I’m very excited about finally using it!
-Won a Kymaro Door Trainer from Mamavation [thank you!] so excited to do some pushups, situps, and dips!

This weeks goals:

-Walk 18 miles
-Continue with The Shred
-Continue eating healthy snacks
-Increase water intake
-Become a Mamavation Mom finalist

What are ways you can work out without having to leave the house?
Now that the weather is cold, exercising inside is ideal for many people. While I dont have one [yet] I hear systems like Wii & Xbox Kinect are great interactive ways to exercise and have fun within the comfort of your own home.
I have purchased a few dvds that vary in style, and I'm able to choose which one fits my mood and workout style.

MAMAVATION TV: Join us Monday night at 7pm PST/10pm EST on Mingle Media TV. The Mamavation Mom applicants [including myself] will be special guests!!

Blogger Spotlight: Andrea @ Thin Thighs & Sweet Potato Fries [Part 1]

If your a Glowicious reader you'll know that I'm on a serious fitness journey! Walking is my main mode of exercise and I've started eating healthy! I feel more determined than ever to live a healthy active lifestyle not only for myself, but for my daughter as well.

So today I'd like to put the spotlight on a fantastic blog I found called Thin Thighs & Sweet Potato Fries! When I saw the blog name, I for one started drooling, I love love love sweet potato fries! I knew I had to check it out, and I'm glad I did. The woman behind the sweet potato fries is Andrea, a talented writer who is also on a fitness journey. She's already lost a considerable amount of weight, but still practices a healthy active lifestyle, so I wanted to ask her some questions about her experience and see if I could get some tips to incorporate into my life.

Meet Andrea!!

Q. Who is Andrea? Where are you from?
I’m a 25 year old Midwest-bred girl (Rockford, IL) who moved to the South (Charlotte) 3 years ago on a complete whim –and never looked back! If I had to sum myself up, I would say I’m a complete girly-girl (in fact, you should’ve seen the reaction I  got from my co-workers when I first started exercising and was spotted – Gasp!—wearing tennis shoes! Lol!) I’m definitely a total foodie if that hasn’t been made clear by my blog (I like cooking it, eating it, researching it, and talking about…a lot); And of course I love health and fitness (some might call it borderline obsessive; I prefer passionate).

Q. Do you have a background in fitness/health?
As of right now, I don’t have a background in health/fitness. I studied Communications in college and currently work full-time in a Corporate Communications role. All my health and fitness knowledge is completely trial and error from my own experiences or from research…and then trial and error. I did recently become a Fit Coach with the NC Fit Club and it’s definitely my hope to become certified in a health and fitness related area in the next year.

Q.When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in June 2010, although in hindsight I wish I’d started a lot sooner. I would have loved to chronicle my entire weight loss journey from the beginning as opposed to the tail end of it. I still share tips and tricks that I learned from the early days though so it still works out.

Q.Why did you create your blog?
Well, to answer that, I guess I should start by referring back to how my weight loss journey began in the first place. To give you the short version, I became reacquainted with a friend I met when I first moved to Charlotte after a long period of not seeing her. Being the (brutally) honest person that she is, she told me that I’d put on weight. I totally didn’t see it coming and felt bewildered by the comment. So I cried, didn’t speak to that friend for 6 months and chalked it up as the worst thing that had ever been said to me. Instead, it ended up being the one of the best! In those 6 months, I got an incredible fire under me to get fit.  I decided to set a goal called “25 by 25” which was a push to lose 25 lbs in the 6 months leading up to my 25th birthday. I began exercising regularly for the first time in my life and researching ways to eat healthy. It was during that research that I first discovered other healthy living blogs. Since I’ve always loved writing, I became inspired to start my own blog and share with others what I was learning in my process to potentially help them the way some of these blogs had helped me.

Q. What is the story behind the title?
Haha! To be honest, there’s not too much of a story behind the title. It’s simply a fun name that popped into my head randomly one day, and I thought it would be perfect to represent the relationship between food and fitness on my blog. Side note: I had never had or even heard of a sweet potato fry prior to moving to the South and now I am in love!

Q. Who do you hope reads your blog?
While, I am always grateful for anyone who cares to read what I have to say about healthy eating and fitness, deep down, I would say I write my blog with the non-healthy eater, and non-exerciser in mind because that was me; a year ago to be exact. I hope that my posts can inspire someone who wants to get fit and doesn’t know where to begin. Or someone who wants tips on incorporating healthy eating into their lives and just needs a few tips and tricks on how to make healthy swaps. Or even someone who already eats well and exercises, but wants ideas for something new to try. I also write for the person who just needs to see that this girl, who several months ago couldn’t run 6 minutes, now runs 6 miles and counting…and loves it…and they can do it too.

Q. What can readers expect from your blog?
A little bit of everything! It’s basically health and fitness through my eyes, which might look a little different from one day to the next. You’ll find healthy recipes, food or fitness finds that I discover, local food or fitness events/classes I attend, tips for grocery shopping, my daily eats from time to time, something I did in my day as it relates to health and fitness, or most often just my random ramblings about food and/or fitness-related topics, whether it’s sharing a personal struggle I’m having with maintaining my weight or something I heard in the news. I try to be as transparent as possible and share a little of who I am mixed in with the food and fitness content.

Stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow of my interview with Andrea where she'll share some healthy eating and exercise tips!

Be sure to check out Andrea at Thin Thighs & Sweet Potato Fries and/or email her at andrea at thin-and-sweet dot com.

Housewarming Help

So after much debate I’ve decided to have a housewarming in about 2 weeks. I’ve sent everyone an evite (looove evites!) and now it’s planning time. I really really really don’t like hosting parties. It’s just a bit awkward for me. But most of my friends haven’t seen my new place, and the new place is great and I like to eat and love good conversation, so figured I’d suck it up and throw a housewarming party.

But, but, but, my first issue is that I have so many different sets of friends, and none of them know each other, so how can I lessen the awkward-ness of a whole bunch of people who don’t know each other?! My first thought is games! I heart board games, they were big in our family growing up and it’s something I enjoy (though for some reason I don’t have any). And I don’t have a fancy Wii or Xbox or Playstation, so I figured board games would be good. I’ve always loved Cranium even though some of the trivia is a little tough. But you can act things out or mold them in clay. When I’ve played with my family it’s always been such a fun time. And I was also thinking Pictionary or MadGab. Am I being too corny?

And the other thing is what food I should serve. I’ve been putting off thinking about it, but it is only 2 weeks away, so I have to think about it. There will be a mix of kids and adults, so have to include stuff kids will like and adults will enjoy. It’s an afternoon get together so nothing very heavy. Maybe meatballs? Veggie Kebabs? Bruschetta? And of course I’ll have salad and a fruit/cheese/cracker combo. Ooh and I heart French Onion dip. I don’t want to go to crazy or expensive, but want to have good food.

Can’t forget about the space issue either! My place is not that big and more people are coming than I thought, so how can I make the most out of the space I have?

I haven’t even thought of decorations either. Do I need them? I do know that the day of I’m going to get some fresh flowers and little vases to put them in, think that will be the perfect touch.
